Venturing in the West is Best!
Welcome to Western Region Venturing's Corner of the Web

Thank you for visiting.  Sit down, (unless you're reading on a smart phone or tablet, in which case watch where you're walking!) take a moment, and join us for a tour of Venturing in the largest region of the Boy Scouts of America. We have more registered Venturers out here than anywhere else in the USA, more high adventure capacity, and the broadest spectrum and greatest diversity of program. Our job in the Western Region Venturing Officers' Association (VOA) is to provide YOU, the Venturing community, with the tools to make your experience rich and memorable. We do that by direct support to our 6 Area VOAs, who in turn directly support their local BSA councils  That includes support to your training, events, and organization. If you can't find what you're looking for, tell us and we'll get it to you...and probably add it to the site, too.

Annaliese Parker to serve as Region Venturing President
Written by Brent Uberty

It is my pleasure to announce Annaliese Parker as the 2012 - 2013 Western Region Venturing President. Her term will begin on June 1st, 2012 Annaliese Parker is from the Santa Clara County Council in Silicon Valley, California. She has served as a Area 3 President and a Western Region Vice President of Communication. Currently she is a Freshman at Drexel University studying Electrical Engineering.

Annaliese has been in Venturing since she was 14 years old and was introduced to Venturing with a 55 mile backpacking trip that went through Kings Canyon to the top of Mount Whitney. She was hooked on Venturing from then on. Some of her favorite activities in Venturing since have been white water rafting, back packing, camping, over night securities, slacklining, and even meetings were fun. From there she branched out into the council and helped found the Area 3 VOA. She has also staffed NYLT, NAYLE, Kodiak, Powderhorn and attended others. She hopes to continue the rapid development in the Western Region VOA that started last year.

Annaliese wants to foster a healthy Venturing Officer Associations in every Area and most Councils, have the Region and Area VOA’s produce resources to councils to help their crews have better program experiences and membership growth, and successfully engage many more Venturers in the leadership trainings offered such as NYLT, NAYLE, and Kodiak.

Best Practices

One of the 2011 - 2012 National Venturing Youth Cabinet's goals is to complete a best practices resource for all Venturers. We have now established a place for you to post your council's and crew's great ideas. Newly located on myscouting.org is a Best Practices Portal under Council Tools. By logging into your myscouting.org account, you can submit best practices in different categories and view other great ideas fellow Venturers have posted. The National Venturing Youth Cabinet will be updating this site with new ideas regularly. I hope this new tool will help each and everyone of you have successful events and activities. Thank you all for continuing to improve the Venturing program for today's young men and women.
